Why is chimney cleaning necessary?


A dirty chimney causes problems you might not be aware of. When wood, coals, oil and artificial fire logs burn, they generate tars, creosotes and other invincible by-products that incomplete combustion. No matter what you burn, creosote accumulation increases the probability of chimney fires.


How often should I clean my chimney?


Frequency depends on a number of different factors including frequency of use, type of wood being burned, types of appliances being used and other influences. A general rule of thumb is a chimney should be cleaned every 50 - 60 fires. An appliance being used 1 - 3 times a week during the winter should be cleaned every year, and usage of 4 - 7 nights a week should be cleaned twice per season.
