Is Installing a Ductless Air Conditioner in Mississauga Ontario a Good Idea?
Published: 02/05/2010 by Patsy Hamilton
You can install a mini-split system, also known as a ductless air conditioner in Mississauga Ontario. In fact, you have several options for cooling your home. Here’s a look at those.
The mini-split system consists of two main units. One unit is located outside of the house. This unit pulls air in. The air then runs through refrigerated lines and enters the second unit.
The second unit is mounted on an inside wall of the house. It blows out the refrigerated air and houses the thermostat. Typically the systems have quiet blowers that are variable in speed.
The systems are not unlike window air conditioners in the way that they work. The big advantage is the thermostat.
The thermostats on window units are not that sensitive. The blowers are usually very noisy. The window is unsecured as long as the unit is in place. Window units are heavy and must be removed during the winter months in order to keep the house warm.
Installing a ductless air conditioner in Mississauga Ontario instead of using a window unit is a good idea, as long as your home is small or only one room is to be cooled. Installing mini-splits in numerous rooms could get expensive.
Assuming your home already has a furnace, you should have insulated ductwork. Air conditioning can be added to the furnace or heat pump by an experienced HVAC contractor.
If you have no ducts, mini-splits could be less expensive than installing ductwork. But, it is not a do-it-yourself project unless you happen to be a licensed electrician.
The only do-it-yourself option would be to install window units. That is the least energy efficient option. Complete insulation is impossible with the units. You will always lose cool air through the cracks.
In many parts of Mississauga, a ductless air conditioner would be sufficient to meet your cooling needs. Since the units are fully enclosed, they are more efficient than window units.
If you decide to install an energy efficient heat pump and air conditioning system, you could qualify for the tax rebate or incentive program currently ongoing in Ontario. Because of the rebates and credits, installing ductwork and a whole new system might fit into your budget.
An HVAC contractor or electrician can help you decide which option is the best choice for your home. The contractors could also give you prices for installing a ductless air conditioner in Mississauga Ontario and compare it to the cost of installing other systems.
It pays to contact a couple of different contractors. The fees they charge vary. Sometimes you can get a better deal by doing a little shopping around.
Here at HomeImprovement411, you can post a description of your home’s cooling needs along with your budget. Contractors in Mississauga and the surrounding area will see your project and contact you via email. It’s the easiest way to do your comparative shopping.
You might also talk to the contractor about other ideas to keep your home cooler in the summer, without sacrificing the sun’s heat in the winter. Installing a ductless air conditioner in Mississauga Ontario may be just your first step.

I did buy ductless in mississauga!
Anna L from mississauga - 14/09/2011 23:51:52
I went with a Keeprite ductless split system for my kitchen breakfast nook. I got one that heats most of the winter too. That is one part that should have been talked about in the article. I had three quotes before I chose who I thought had the best plan, not the cheapest price (I love my house). Cal and his crew did a great job and the system is what I wanted so I don't mind passing on their contact info. If you are thinking about a ductless for your house make them one of your quotes, they knew more about these products than anyone... Dr. Comfort 416-255-9118
